This collection consists of military, business, and family records of George M. Chescheir, Sr., and his immediate family. Within the records are military correspondence from 1916-1946 that include accounts of daily military life during the 1916 Mexican Border Skirmish, W.W. I, and W.W. II. Also included is correspondence from 1914-1964 concerning the insurance business and an early-20th century endeavor of Chescheir's to sell electric automobiles. Personal correspondence includes letters among Booker family members; Chescheir's letters to his parents, wife, children; letters from former POW's; and a series of letters from Sister Mary Alfreda (a family member of one of the POW's). Photographs include: United States Army's punitive expedition into Mexico in 1916; W.W. I; pre-W.W. II and W.W. II photos, especially of POW's and of the POW camps; and post W.W. II as Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army. Business photographs pertain mostly to Chescheir's interest in electric automobiles. Family photos include glass plate negatives of the Booker family; Chescheir family albums; and photos of Chescheir, his wife, sons, and daughter. Ephemera include: newspapers from 1917-1969, phonograph records of an Italian language course and a 1944 Christmas program held by German POW's. There are W.W. II pamphlets; personal travel guides published in 1918 by Ford; sermons, bank books, membership cards, pocket notebooks, and a copper plate for printing calling cards. Lastly, the collection contains some maps of Ft. Knox, Ky. and some artifacts. Maps were transferred to the Map division of Special Collections. Artifacts are in the museum collections.
